Artist Biography

Cindy Fogarty was born in Limerick where she continues to live and work. She recently graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design with a first class BA honours degree in Fine Art Painting.

Her practice engages a variety of media including paint, installation, sculpture and photography, with the primary focus being on painting, and its illusionary qualities.

Her work explores perspectives of post-modernist interpretations, and attempts to broaden the definitions of contemporary painting, using the architectural spaces we occupy as her primary painting support. The process requires a sensitivity and receptiveness to the multiple perspectives, elements and conditions of the architectural spaces she engages with. The architecture unfolds as a metaphor for psychological spaces, which are dissected, reassembled and altered.

Her practice incorporates research and studio tests involving the manipulation of our visual processing systems, which are inspired by studies of neuroscientific research into visual and cognitive perception.

At the centre of this practice is a desire to create an immersive visual experience for the viewer, which magnifies the complexities of our cognitive processes, and where consciousness and critical thinking may be evaluated through the induced physiological response.
